The Mister and Me

This here is a very summarized version of our story.  Our story is not one of romance or torrid lovecapades.  There's no big fireworks that shoot off every time I kiss him, and I don't get butterflies in my stomach when I catch a glimpse of him, okay maybe I do sometimes.  He doesn't shower me we flowers or candy, and he doesn't jewel up my fingers, neck or wrists.  Now that I think about it, do I even like this guy?

This is my favorite wedding picture of a very scruffied Mister and me.  Again, notice the classy orange hair-tie I'm wearing as a bracelet.
Like him?  Love him?  I adore him.  I can't picture life without him, well I can, because we split up for two years, about ten years ago, but I don't want to imagine life without him.
This is as close as I got to a down-on-one-knee proposal.
Don't get me wrong, I'm no romance disher either.  I have my moments of sappiness, yes.  For lunch today, he got a heart cookie and three chocolate covered strawberries and a card.  But for the most part, I'm a caregiver, not a romancer, and that's okay with me.
These smiles aren't fake because there's no love.  Their fake because the painkillers keeping our hangover symptoms at bay are starting to wear off.  Yes, we were hungover.  What do you expect, it was Vegas.

We didn't have a whirlwind romance followed by a tear-jerking proposal.  No, we had been together for 16 years, we had one raised daughter, we were still raising a teenage girl .  We lost our baby boy, separated for a couple years, found love for each other again one Halloween night while taking our younger trick-or-treating.  It's those dimples I tell you.  And that grin.  Turns me silly.  I've been so mad at him, that the thought of smackin' him with a rolling pin sounded awesome.  But, I'll tell you this.  I could never love anyone the way I love him.  I could never give my heart to anyone else, trust me, I've tried.  I didn't need anything more than a "don't you think it's time we got married" proposal, two years ago.  Our Vegas wedding was perfect, except the hangovers, and a couple missing guests.
This is also one of my favorite wedding pictures.

I don't desire or expect, this Valentines day, to get a gift, or a card.  He won't be bringing any flowers home for me.  If I want chocolates, I'll wait until they go on sale tomorrow.  I won't get a mushy text today from him.  But he'll come home, he'll put his arms around me, kiss my cheek and tell me he loves me.  Not because it's Valentines day, but because it's Monday, and the best thing is, he does it every other day that ends in 'y'.   And that's perfect for us.
Sealed with a kiss.  And an orange hair-tie.

Don't worry if you want to know more, I'm sure I'll get to those stories soon, but for now this is all ya get.
Happy Valentines Day!
Marisa
