You gotta fight, for your right, to PAAAAAARTY

Will someone please tell me when the hell December got here.  And why do they say 'time flies when you're having fun', well time sure is a flyin', but I'm slacking on the fun part...

Mostly...

I have found a few times recently to kick up my heels and throw back a few, but for the rate at which time is flying, not nearly enough.

Although some good things are going on.  I got hired on as a permanent employee of my job.  Yayayay!  No more temp service for me, hello raise and new benefits.  Husband went back to work for his union job, Yayayay, to not losing medical and gaining savings again....Oh wait....Saving have to wait because.  Husband got his snowmobile, he caught it on fire the first time he rode it, then it went to the shop, then he rode a friends snowmobile and caught that one of fire, and now that one is in the shop, and now were paying for repairs for 3, yes 3 snowmobiles to be fixed, and no my maths are fine, he's paying for one he broke last year to be fixed as well.  I told my kids they get snowmobile they never get to see or ride for Christmas this year.

But I'm not bitter.

I've been so busy, that my love for blogging has been stifled by the responsibilities of life.
Suck-eee

But I'm here now, and while I'm here I'm gonna turn this into a We Want To Know Wednesday, so go link up with the ladies, QuesoMamarazzi and CrazyMama and let us know how you Paaaaaaaaaaaarty.

Time for a little Q&A

1. Are you a party person? Or do you prefer an intimate gathering with just a few friends?
Ha, define a few, because in our crew, few, is more than five sets of two.  I'm sorry, this time of year makes me watch How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and that makes me rhyme.  Seriously though, our small preferred gathering usually consist of about 15-25 people and that just enough for me.

2. Would you rather be a guest at a party or the hostess with the mostess?
Guest/Party planner/Caterer but no host.  I'm not sure in what realm that makes sense, but I'll cook and help plan, and I'll even entertain for you.   But, at your house.

3. What is your favorite party food or drink? (I'd love to see the recipe!)
Ooo, I have two, let me share them with you.  See, can't help myself.
First one is super easy, cut a package of bacon into thirds, lengthwise, wrap each third piece of bacon around a lil' smokie, put it in a baking dish, cover it generously with brown sugar and bake until bacon is done and brown sugar is melted over it.  OMG you'll love it.

The other one is easy too.  Get a pound of sweet hot Italian sausage, cook it up, then melt a package of cream cheese into it, with a cup of grated cheese of your choice, I like sharp myself, mix that all up, and fill uncooked jalapenos that have been halved, length wise, and scraped out.  Then you bake those at 350 until bubbly and golden.  Again, heaven in your mouth.

4. What is the best party you've ever been to?
Easy, any camping trip, from any summer, from any age in my life.

5. What is your favorite party game?
Hahahahahaha.  Drunken charades.  And not the charades where you have a game board pieces or anything official.  No, we make up our own, people, movies and phrases ourselves, establish absolutely NO rules, and just take turns acting like idiots for two minutes hoping someone actually connects with us enough to guess what the hell were doing.  By far my favorite, followed closely by the name game.  That's another good time right there.

Now back to the real world of responsibility and other adult type crap!

December 5, 2011

Ode to, well nothing really imparticular.

Oh dear legwarmers, where have you gone?
Why have you left me freeze, all alone?
Is it because of my fling, with my sandals in the spring?
Or the shorts I wore in July, when the degrees, were high?

I swear they meant nothing to me
and I always thought of you.
But now it's freezing outside, you're no where.
I don't know what to do.

So please come back to me,
for without you,
I won't make it to February.

Some friends of mine.

I like to think that you can tell a lot about a person, by the crazies people they are friends with.  Most people don't have a set "type" of person they hang out with, except for me, it seems almost all of my friends are a bit looney.

What, you don't believe me???

This is Stacy, now while she looks perfectly normal here, in this picture with G.  a very dear friend of mine, whom I made a monkey cake for this weekend for his birthday, Stacy is a loon.  She may look sweet and innocent in this picture, but give her a little bit to warm up to her surroundings and you have a whole new girl, just looking to shock and awe you.
Aaarggh, I be a pirate and me want yer booty.
I'm not even sure what's going on here.

I do know that she likes to stick her tongue out a lot tho.  Here she is with my oldest and bestest friend.
She's a bit of a weirdo too.  Not like me, I'm perfectly normal.

See, perfectly normal.  Me and the birthday boy man
And perfectly not normal.  There's the monkey cake I made.
Although, she is not the looniest of my peeps.  No no not by a long shot.  No that title is reserved for one of my favorite people outside of my family.  This guy will do anything to make you smile laugh burst your belly wide open with laughter.  If Will Ferrell and Chris Farley were to have a love child with Jim Carey, you would have Justin.  Now before I show you his little montage, let me just warn you about what you're going to see.

Pure Awesomeness, that's what.  And a fat guy in a little shirt.  Hide your small children and those who just can't handle it.

I didn't lie, did I?  This is Justin...No, not Beiber, although I think girls find him just as sexy. Justin has been in the gang for about 15 years now and I can gain more ab power in one night around him, than I could in one week at a gym.  As you can clearly see.

He will do anything, and I do mean anything for a laugh.  Like putting on a shirt that would fit his 13 year old daughter to take sexy pictures with the birthday boy.

He's their number one fan.  I keep telling them they should make this their new promo picture to hang in the bars.  I mean the crowds they could attract with this would be amazing.
Not all of my friends are like this.  I have some semi-normal ones too, but let's face it, who the hell wants normal when you can have loonies like this, right?!

I love my people.

Now off to do housewifey stuff.
Till tomorrow,
Marisa

Surviving the layoff, week 1

Photobucket

It's Friday Confessional day over at Mamarazzi's House and this is a pretty odd Friday.  Mostly, because it doesn't really seem like Friday now that The Mister is off work for a few weeks.

And since he's been off work for a full week now,

I confess...

*It's really not that bad to have him around everyday.  Of course, it has only been a week, but I have high hopes that it will stay this awesome and that we continue to NOT get on each others nerves.

*I spent the first three days of this week getting the younger enrolled in school.  She decided that yes, she loves online school, but she really misses going to school.  So she's decided that she wants to go to the school her dad, aunt and grandma went to which is awesome, except for the fact that it's not in our district, so I have to take her to school everyday.  Small price to pay for an "excited to go to school" kid though.

*I'm getting excited for fall.  I've been in denial about it, because we really haven't had that much of an awesome summer, weather wise, and I kind of feel a little jipped by it, but I'm getting over that and getting psyched about all the fun fall things to do and make and smell.

* I'm not, however, looking forward to the winter that comes after.  I'm not a huge fan of freezing cold weather.  I'm not ready for my power bill to double.  And I'm certainly NOT ready for the muddy floors and carpets, I mean, I just got them cleaned from last winter.

I've bought 3 Christmas presents already.  This is the first time EVER in my life that I've bought presents before December 15th.  EVER!!!  I may be growing up and getting smarter.  Shhhhhhhh, don't tell anyone else, okay??!!

*I'm officially spent from all this soul bearing.  /Hand to head in my best Scarlet O'Hara voice.

Don't forget to go link up and confess your...........confessions.

Hope everyone has a safe and fabulous Labor Day weekend,
Marisa

I'm not chopped liver, I'm a winner!

Ok, so I know that I usually do the Friday Confessional bloghop on Friday's but today's confessional will be a bit different.

Why, you ask?

Y'all did ask right?

Hello?

Anyone?

Today's confessional is brought on by the way of:

And it was awarded to me by the evah tooo adorable Not so normal mommy.  I already love this girl and I've only known her a short time.  She's a young mommy with three gorgeous kids, including the most adorable newborn baby girl.  A girl truly after my own heart, beins' she has the same amount of kids I did at 22, she fun, free spirited and I can't wait to give her all my useless knowledge on how to make it to my age with out any homicide charges or funny farm visits.  Go check this girl out, she's fabulous.

Now for the rules.  Rules, rules always rules.

  • Thank the giver, and link back to them in your post.  Check!
  • Tell seven things about yourself.  Check....below.
♫  I love music.  I mean LOVE it.  If music were a person, I would have betrothed myself to him when I was three.  I love going to live shows and big concerts.  I listen to it loud, I love it when I can feel it in my chest.  Whew, think it's time to turn on some tunes.
♪  I had my first daughter at 16, my second at 20 and my son at 21.  Whoa, right?  But, I did it and I think I did a pretty awesome job.  My oldest girl is now 21, the youngest girl is 17 and a senior in high school this year...................................wiping tears.  Plus, my son is my own personal guardian angel.  I must have done something right to have such a wonderful angel looking over me.  Not to brag, but they're the best kids EVER.  And I'm not just saying that because I'm completely biased or anything.
♫  I didn't get my drivers license until I was 37.  Yeah, that's last year.  It all started when I was 18 and taking that dreaded, written knowledge test, and I tanked it.  SEVEN TIMES I tanked it.  So I gave up, I mean I was already driving right?  Fast forward a couple few bunch of tickets and an OJ type mostly slow speed car chase.  But after years of being completely irresponsible in the aspect of my life, I got my shit together and got my license and insurance.
♪  I could read and write by four.  I don't remember, but I do have proof, through letters I wrote and stories I've heard.  My Grampa used to sit and read the newspaper with me, teach and quiz me on the letters and next thing I know, I'm reading and have had a love affair with words ever since.  Thanks Gramps, that totally makes up for the mustache I'm starting to grow.
♫  I'm bossy.  Not much to add to that, except I'm a mostly polite bossy bitch.
♪  I am a magazine hoarder.  I have a huge collection of magazines.  I call it collection, like it's not really an addiction.  I don't know why, but I keep thinking that someday, I'm going to need a tip, recipe, wise word or sooomething in one of those shiny papered, brightly colored, picture books.  I need help.
♫  I'm thinking of opening an online thrift store.  I've been cleaning out my basement for months years now, and I keep coming up with cool things, that I know my kids don't want, nor do they want to go through all this shit when we die, and The Mister said, "you really could open an entire store with all the stuff we have"        *lightbulb*    Why couldn't I do it, I'm smart enough, I have a ton of inventory and since I'm still unemployed and apply to all the jobs I'm qualified for in about two hours, I have plenty of spare time.  It's at least something to investigate further, right?

Well, if my maths are correct, that's seven.  You know what that means?  That's right. more rules.
  • Give this award to, up to 15 recently discovered bloggers and let them know you did it.  Okay, here they are:
I started following this girl through the Friday Confession Bloghop and have already felt a kinship with her.  Go check her out.  Don't make me get the zombie bunnies outta the dungeon.

Hop on over to this girls blog.  She is chock full of delicious recipes, wit and loads of wisdom.  Go on, give her a click.

This Chick is real.  I love her candor and her honesty and her humor.  In a word.  Bitchin'  go see for yourself.

I only picked three, because I don't wanna overwhelm y'all with blogs on a bloghop friday.

Hope y'all have a fantastic weekend.

Scooby, the eyes on that picture just moved...

Welcome to Wednesday.
I gotta tell ya'll, I'm pretty anxious today.  I interviewed for a job yesterday, and lets just say, I WANT THIS JOB.  It's a bit of a commute, especially if there's traffic, but I would be going the opposite direction of the really shit traffic, usually.  It's for a position in the foods department of Saint Martins College, which is a catholic college.  I know, I was afraid lightening was going to strike me down too, but I made it through the interview, which I rocked by the way, without even a warning flash.  So now I get to play the anxious waiting game with butterflies in my belly. Did I mention, I'll get to work with Monks???  Like real life, robes tied with ropes, Monks.  And OMG, Nuns.  I really want this job.  So around 1 pm pacific time, if ya'll hear the faint sound of WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOO  don't worry, that will just be me celebrating.

Now, on with the show.

It's Wednesday and time for WWTK, hosted by the always awesome Mamarazzi and the super fantastic Queso, who by the way, asked this week's questions.  So hop on over and tell us your answers.

1. If you could be on any game show what would it be?
I would have to say, that it would have to be, Wheel of Fortune, because I rock that game.  OH oh, or Family Feud.  I love that damn game show.

2. If you could stay any certain age forever, what would it be?
I don't want to stay any age forever, but I would love to have the body I did when I was 17 forever.  Okay not 17, 23 is better.

3. What were you doing 30 minutes ago?
OMG answering the last question.  Ridiculous, right???  I have 15 tabs open in my browser and I keep flipping back and forth and getting sidetracked.  I think I need help!

4. What would I find in your fridge right now?
Condiment Galaxy, 3 different kinds of beer (fat beer, skinny beer and Raaaaaaiiiiiinieeeeeeeerrr beer), the fixin's for tonights lasagna, spilled wine from 2 weeks ago, OJ gotta have OJ, Tupperware with mystery contents from a mystery date that I'm afraid to open but haven't thrown away, milk, eggs and butter, you know the usual.

5. If you were a piece of furniture what would you be? Why?
I would want to be me in my wedding picture, that way I could freak people out by moving my eyes, like in the old Scooby-Doo shows.  That would be rad.  Wait...Is a picture a piece of furniture?  Yes, no??  Okay, if not, I'll say the most used lamp, then I'm sure to get turned on regularly.  Da dum dumm.  Kssshh

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to tell ya'll I gots me a job!

10k? Shit, I can't even run the length of the driveway.

It has come to my attention that I am...totally out of shape.  I know, I know, this probably comes as a shock to most of you, but....It's true.

Last night I decided to head over to KT house, where we talked, laughed, took a little boat ride around the lake, then, I drank....and then I drank some more.

Long story short...

Hahahahaha, this is me remember??

This morning after The Mr. left, I cleaned up the kitchen and decided that I had done enough work for one morning, and laid down on the couch to nap rest my eyes.  When all of a sudden, I'm awoken by the sound of the garbage truck rumbling and squealing through the hood.

"Shit"  I yell, to no one.  "It's garbage day".

I jump up, blurry and red eyed, throw on my flippy-floppy's and run out, grab can #1 and literally run it to the end of the driveway, if any of you know anything about me, I don't run.  If you see me run, you better start running too, because obviously something bad is chasing me.  I run back down the driveway and grab can #2 as I'm hearing the rumble and squeal get closer, I turn and run the can up the driveway in just enough time, to turn around, so the approaching garbage boys don't see me in all my red-eyed, psychotic haired, spandex shorts, out of breath glory.

Two trips, at a panicked run, hauling a 50lb garbage can and I felt like I needed to lay down and die.

Just yesterday I was telling the younger that we should start training for The Warrior Dash, which is a really fun and muddy obstacle course.  I was also telling her that we should get into a mini or half marathon.  After today's, near death running experience, I may have to rethink all of this.

Almost Friday!!!!

Mortal Enemy Monday

So, it's been raining here for days, and that means that both me and the cats have been stuck inside, listening to the relentless raindrops bash the house.  Today, the weather is finally nice enough for me to go out and mow the lawn.

Unfortunately, with the cats being stuck inside, my mortal enemy #1 has taken over the front yard, which means I have to do some stomping and dirt relocating, before I can mow.  I don't like killing moles, but I'm sure glad my cats do.
Suck-y!

I would just like it noted that the one in the center is like a foot tall.  It's ridiculous.

While looking around at the things I would be able to do, now that the sun is out, I was faced with Mortal Enemy #2.  For the last five and a half years, I've battled this enemy, violently, mercilessly and poisonously.  That's right, I resorted to poisoning a living creature.
Also sucky!

Morning Glory.  Literally the root of all that is evil in my garden.

I've tried everything to get rid of it.  I live on a mountain of boulders and morning glory.
On a happier note.

The glorious sun is out and they say it'll even get up to 77* here.  Oh happy day, OH HAPPY DAY!!!

My rose bush that I planted just last year has now approached the nine foot mark. I have no idea how it got so big, or why it has avoided the morning glory takeover, but it has and it's getting ready to bud another rose.
Radness!

The bottom of that window is 10' off the ground and that rosebushtree  only has about a foot left to be even with it.
And another totally rad thing is, I got to go make dinner for my Mom, Dad, Sister her BF and my Brother.  Made stir-fry, it rocked.  Made cupcakes, they were heavenly.  Had a great day.
Awesome!

I'm very proud of myself for only eating two four of these.

But they were gooood!
Now I have to get outside and murder some morning glory and yell at some crows.
Happy Monday!

I'll be right back...and other famous lies.

This is probably my most heard lie, right in front of, I'll do it in a minute.  I say this to The Mister and/or the kid as I'm walking out the door of the house, or room I might be in, knowing full well that I will, in fact, not be right back.

Last night for instance, my gf down the street texted me and asked me if I had a stick of butter she could borrow.  Of course, being the sweet thing that I am, I immediately jumped at the chance to get out of the house for a few minutes I set out to lend a helping hand.

I lean over my COD playing man, kiss him on the forehead and utter my famous lie.  This was at seven thirty.  When I returned home at nine, the kid was downstairs, in her fathers spot on the couch watching her weekly dose of Switched at Birth, her new obsession.  With a smug grin on her face, she sarcastically chastises me for my tardiness.

Kid:  "Right back, huh?"

Me:  "Well you know KT, she can talk.  It was nearly impossible for me to leave."

Kid:  "Yes mom, I'm sure it was all her talking"

Me:  "Well we haven't seen each other in like, two days and she has a puppy"

Kid:  "How old are you, thirteen?"

Me:  "Shouldn't you be in bed?"

Kid:  "A. I'm seventeen, 2. It's summer and C. It's only nine o' clock."

Me:  "Yeah, so isn't it time for you to get a job and get out?"

Kid:  "Umm, you told me I can't leave until I'm twenty."

Me:  "Oh yeah. Fine, whatever.  Just keep your mouth shut for the rest of your residency.  By the way, when did Pa go to bed?"

Kid:  "About a half hour after you left, just about the time he realized that you wouldn't be right back."

Me:  "Watch it smart ass, I'll put you up for adoption."

Kid:  " You always say that, I think you may be a compulsive liar."

Me:  "You don't even know what that is."

Kid: ...  ...  ...  ...

Kid:  "Please stop talking now, my show is back on"

And that was my Monday night.
See ya tomorrow.

From funny to sad in the roll of the credits.

When the kid got up this morning she changed the TV from the old morning standard, the news, to the movie Dumb and Dumber.  I know that movie back and forth, and after over a decade it still makes me laugh out loud, every time I see it.  I can't help it, it just gets to my funny bone.

This is totally me and the best friend.  Source

After that movie was over, and before she went upstairs, she was kind enough to change it to the polar opposite of the above movie.  As I sit here and type this, I am both laughing and crying over Steel Magnolia's.  Ugh, who doesn't love this movie?  It truly has everything you'd want in a movie.  It makes you laugh, it makes you cry, it just makes you feel everything.  I quote this movie often.  The kid says I'm like the mom in that movie., except I'm not as nice.  Thanks kid, I'll take that as a good thing.

Couldn't have done a better job of  casting this movie.  Source.
So if ya don't mind, I'm going to go cry my eyes out some more.
